Mestre Maurão
Mestre Maurão started capoeira in 1979, in the city of Santo André (São Paulo, Brazil), in the Nova Luanda Group, led by Mestre Valdenor, where he graduated in 1985. Mestre Maurão participated in several championships in the 80s where he became Brazilian Tri-Champion (consecutive), in addition to being Paulista Champion for 14 years. In the 1990s he lived in England, where he taught capoeira classes and participated in presentations and shows about Brazilian culture. In São Paulo, he was one of the leaders of the famous Roda da Praça da República, considered one of the most traditional capoeira rodas in the world due to the fact that it brings together so many capoeiristas from different parts of Brazil, and the world. – Adapted from Baobá Comunicação, Cultura e Conteúdo, Portal Capoeira
